Four-year/MA granting institutions and PhDlevel granting institutions were evenly split between no changes and causing a small increase, with a minority reporting a significant increase in database use. However, 37 Academic Library Website Benchmarks PhD-level granting institutions reported more success with increasing database use significantly. 06% reported a small increase. 18% of private colleges, which also reported more small increases and fewer no-impact cases than public colleges. 5% reporting no change at all.

There was no clear pattern of consultant use among colleges of varying FTE enrollments, but the most common use of consultants was among libraries with over 12,000 FTE students. Libraries without their own webmaster or web staff were more likely to hire consultants, and almost three times more likely to have the college administration finance it, compared to libraries with their own webmaster or web staff. Almost the same percentages of both library types reported that they used a consultant and that the library paid for it.
